How to use Recovery Storage Groups in Exchange Server 2003

the article addresses all your concerns about the features and usage of the Recovery Storage Groups.

    • You want to recover data from a single mailbox, a single database, or a group of databases that are in a single storage group. For example, you can use a Recovery Storage Group to recover items that were deleted and purged from a user's mailbox, or you can use a Recovery Storage Group to restore or to repair a copy of an alternative database while another copy of the database remains in production.

You restore the storage group to the RSG.
Then once you have the RSG with the data you then extract the mailbox that you need, usually using exmerge. Mount the resulting PST file in Outlook and you can restore whatever you like.

            Re: Recovery Storage Groups

after restoring to the RSG, use exmerge.exe to extract the data from the desired account which will export a .pst and then use that to find a specific message after importing.

i guess there are several ways you could get the mail back... anyone else have anything to help this cat? im at a loss... ive used RSG in the class only. i have an SQL dB to retrieve messages...

            sorry...

                Hi,

if you have e2k3 enterprise then you need not to dismount the store

but make sure you have sufficient disk space.
