  • Exchange 2003 Backup files - NTBackup

I would like to verify that i am backing up the correct files to be able to restore an Exchange Server. I am currently using NTBackup, and doing a full backup of the Information Store. I am also doing a full backup of the C: drive except for the c:\program files\exchsrvr\mdbdata directory.

In NTBackup I have the information store checked, is there anything else I need to backup? (Logs/db) or does the information store backup everything required on it's own?

thanks in advance for your help.

If the machine is dedicated to Exchange and you have separate domain controllers then you only need the store. Nothing else. You do not need the contents of /exchsrvr, the logs or the physical files. A full backup of the C drive I think is a waste of time. Most of the files you are backing up will come off a CD when you reinstall Windows. You cannot restore from bare metal using that kind of backup.
