  • DNS MX Record

    Hello guys.

We have to Exchange servers in our company.

First we have the Exchange Cluster as one server and second we have an exchange server for the SMTP Duties (SMTP Connector) for our domain.

Right now with MX record in our DNS we just have a record for the SMTP connector but not for our exchange server.

All is working as it should but I wonder if we need to create a MX record for our exchange server.

In that case the mail server priority for the smtp connector is 10, so if I add the new MX record what should be the priority and should I change the priority for the actual Connector?

    Regards

      Re: DNS MX Record

SMTP Connectors and MX records have no connection with each other. One is for outbound email {SMTP Connector) and the other is for is bound email (MX records).

If you add the other servers to the MX records then ensure that they have the some settings as the primary and whatever you are doing for anti-spam.

Thank you Sembee for your help as always.

I understood now that the MX record are only need it for the inbound mail and not for the internal one.

        Thank you very much

No shame at all. You posted back within 1 minute with info you had found for others to use. So, you helped with similar future question and you learnt something else for yourself as well. A good post if you ask me.

          Well done.
