  • Running low on disk space (was: Exchange 2003 problems)

    I have got a Windows 2000 server SP4 with Exchange 2003 SP2 installed.

    Server Spec

    Two partitions system and data

    Raid 5

    2 Gb memory

I have run out of disk space on data partition which have Exchange 2003 installed. I have free up as much disk space as possible approx 5 Gb. When ever I start Exchange services system freezes.

Also having the problem that data partition is 116 Gb and Exchange is taking up 59 Gb. I can't find out exactly what else is taking up remaining disk space.

Any help would be most helpful.

I take it you are backing up Exchange regularly so log files are not causing the problem?

If you for disk space usage or similar you will find a range of tools to show you what is using up space. You can also add additional drives and move either the Exchange databases or the logs to another drive.

Shadow Copy Services would be the first thing I would look it. Is something taking shadow copies of the drive?

Re: Running low on disk space (was: Exchange 2003 problems)

I found the problem to be Mail Essentials, it had been previously configured to save spam emails. These are stored in a folder called GlobalActions within the program folder. There were so many files in this folder I was unable to read the capacity.

Eventually after clearing old files from this folder and change the configuration Exchange seems to run a lot better and more stable.

                Again thanks for all help
