  • OWA 2003 FBA - dont work with NETBIOS server name

    Hi all, how are you?

I have the following trouble, our customer have only one Exchange Server 2003 STD Spk2. This server have Windows CA Authority to provide SSL Certificate... ok

IIS host no more websites, itīs just for Exchange running OWA troughout SSL, like:
    https://mail.DOMAIN.COM.BR/exchange or https://10.100.35.51/exchange or https://NT_DC01.DOMAIN.local/Exchange.

** Both URLs use FormsAuthenticationBased and works fine!

    But (here come the problem)...
    ####################
When I try to access https://NT_DC01/Exchange, the FBA page open normally, ask me about user and password but after supply and click at īLOGONī button, didnīt logon and ask me again about user and password... [loop]

It seems that FBA dont work (understand as authenticate) with NETBIOS name at URL or because the reffered server has the "_" character in the name!

    Did someone see that?
    How to fix it?

    Hi,

    Is it a new server?

If not: Is it coming with all the users or with new users only?

      Tks for reply...

this server is not a NEW server and this behavior apply for ALL users that try to access by NETBIOS name of server, at URL!

        Hi,

        Try to ping both:

        NT_DC01

        &

        NT_DC01.domain.local

Are both being resolved to same IP Address.........?

Re: OWA 2003 FBA - dont work with NETBIOS server name

          Yeap,

PING by IP, by DNS name or NETBIOS name works fine.

The FBA page is displayed normally when access https://NT_DC01/Exchange, but the authentication process persist asking for user and password, even you informing that...

          tks,

Re: OWA 2003 FBA - dont work with NETBIOS server name

Are you able to logon using the IP address instead of the server name in the URI for Exhange? If so, can you add a CNAME alias for the server as per http://support.microsoft.com/kb/281308 and see if that allows logon?

That Microsoft KB article seems to be about a different topic, but it is really all about how to add a CNAME record as an alias to your server name, so you could choose a new name without an underscore character, and you will not lose your existing server name.
            Best wishes,
            PaulH.

Trying to access by IP Address, works fine!!
                But by NETBIOS NAME no!!!

                * I will try to register as you mentined (CNAME at DNS) and post later the results.

                tks,

Does the virtual directory location for the Exchange virtual directory look like this:

                  \\.\BackOfficeStorage\domain.com\MBX

where domain.com is your internal domain?
