  • Exchange 2003 Migration

    Hi

we have exchange 2003 server installed on our DC and now we want to migrate exchange server 2003 to a new machine (member server) and remove old exchange from DC. how do we do this migration. i have read so many threads on that and now find myself a bit confuse about it.

the current setup is as below.

Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition SP2 (Exchange, DNS. AD, WINS, DHCP, IIS)
Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition SP2 (DC) used as backup as replication is done betweek both these servers.

now we want to remove exchange server from our DC and install a new member server (Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition) and move all exchange mailboxes, public folders and contact lists etc.

if you can point out any link or similar thread that would be great.

    My guide is here: http://www.amset.info/exchange/migration.asp

There isn't much to it, just ensure that you do everything in the right order and don't try to rush it. With care you can do it with zero downtime and the users will not even notice anything is wrong.

        Hi Simon,

First of all thanks for your help.

I have Archived all the Mailboxes Using Exmerge. Everything went fine.

the only prblem left is backing up Public Folders Data because as i know Exmerge cant Archive Public Folders. If you could guide me about the best way to Archive Public Folders and then able to search through them. the total size of Public folders is 22GB.

There is only one option for public folders - you have to extract them through Outlook. It will not be quick, as Outlook coughs if you try and move too many items at once.
