  • Remote RPC outlook users need to attach files from server

We have several users who exclusivly remotely access Exchange on our SBS2k3 server by rpc-over-http. However, they need to be able to attach files (.jpg images) that are also stored on our SBS server to their emails.

The image store is ~10gb, over 14,000 images

Is there any way that a Exchange public folder can just link to the images and not actually store the images?

No there is nothing like that in Exchange 2003. It does exist in Exchange 2007 through OWA, which allows you to access shared folders on the network.

The stock answer from Microsoft would be Sharepoint, but I don't think that is suitable.
The only thing that is going to really work is a web interface, perhaps a folder on the web site that they have to authenticate to, which gives access. If they need to attach the image only, and not upload then that may work.

In IIS manager simply create a new virtual directory in the Default Web Site and point it at the image store. Turn off anonymous access and allow directory browsing.
