  • Duplicate emails, Delay in delivery and MX records issue.

    Hi,
got Exchange server 2003, Stand alone running 2003 Server machine. all is up to date.

in the last week we started to receive some email with delay( up to 4 -5 hours), some of them were duplicate, but for some reason it were fixed by itself(probably not.. )
    it came back again...

i tried to run some MX record tests for the domain,
i got two different results, one positive but the second time wasn't not so good,
    attached both results.

    i got some questions,
i can't figure what the meaning of the TTL value? configured to 3600 in my domain.

also, the MX record for this domain is quite strange i think : ( i added the asterisks) - my local server is the 62.219.***.*** server.
    10 mail.*******.net 62.219.***.*** 3600
    50 mx2.******.org 204.13.249.**** 3600

hopefully i gave all the details needed.

    thanks in adavnce,
    Assaf.

Why do you think the MX records are strange? What does the second record point to? Is it a server under your control? If it isn't, then that could be the problem. You need to check with whoever controls that server that they will still accept email for your domain.

The other cause of this can be antivirus, antispam or SMTP scanning on a firewall, so you should check that as well.

      Hi and shabat shalom,

ok, the MX record isn't strange, except the transcation time delay i'm gets all the time. (11.0 sec), so i thinking the problem can be with this delay that casue the SMTP sender to move the the second server bacause the time out,

      can it be possible?

A slow response could potentially cause the sending server to try the other server, however that should not a delay to email measured in hours. Have you looked at the headers of the messages to see where the delays take place?

Having the same issue with Exchange 2000 SP3. MX record looks good.

Anyone have any ideas at all?
