  • RPC over HTTP not working - SSL seems fine.

    Evening everyone.

I've got a slight problem with my RPC over HTTP config. It doesn't work.

I've followed Daniels guide for single server configuration and when I browse to https://{external FQDN}/rpc I don't get an SSL warning. I am using a 'homegrown' SSL Cert and have imported the root CA certificate onto the client machines.

    Any help is greatly appreciated

    Regards,
    Freakish_05

If you issued the certificate from your "internal CA" that you created, you should try to connect through your internal name.
    At me it works fine.

    hope this helps,

My primary recommendation with this feature is to never use a home grown certificate. I spent many hours trying to get this feature to work when it was first released, with little success. Then I put a commercial SSL certificate on (a trial certificate from RapidSSL.com) and it worked a few minutes later. I can now get the feature to work with a commercial certificate in less than 30 minutes - including the time to get the certificate.

Self issued certs require you to import the cert into the cert store on every machine that will need access, and often it's hairpulling getting them to work. This often doesn't work for handheld devices, which have no mechanism for importing self issued certs. It's more hassle than the savings are worth. You can get a cert from Thawte (a division of Verisign/Network Solutions) for about $200.00 US or so.

GoDaddy SSL certificates are $40 for 2 years -- under 20 here seems well worth it

          As said, much less hassle!
