  • how to remove dead exchange server?

I need to remove a dead exchange server from AD but I cant find domething that tells me how to do it safely. The problem is specially noticeable on the public folder store, looks like there were issues when stores were moved to the new server, what can you recommend to fix this??

    Any help appreciated, thanks

Re: how to remove dead exchange server?

You need to remove the dead server from the list of replicas of all of the public and system folders. Until you have done that, nothing else will work.
Ensure that the dead server was not set as the OAB server or the recipient update server.

Once you have removed all of the replicas you should also ensure that there are no mailboxes homed on the dead server. Remember that a mailbox can be homed on the server even if it was never used. There are various techniques for finding those mailboxes, I have one here: http://exchange.sembee.info/2003/mig...-mailboxes.asp

With all of that done, you should be able to select the server in ESM and choose Delete. It will take a while before the menu comes up and you will be unable to delete the server while it is listed as a replica or has mailboxes homed on the server.

Thankss! more in deep into my issue, do you have any recommendations, or considerations in regards of if there could be additional steps to take when the working server in use now is a cluster??

The fact that the live server is in a cluster shouldn't make any difference.
