  • OWA help with Public Folders

When i log into Outlook web access and i go to the public folders i can't seem to reply to the messages in there. If i do it in outlook on the machine itself it works no problem. As soon as i go on the web to reply to message when i'm on the road it does not work. Any help would be great. I know the box is Exchange 2003. I've looked all the settings i've done a few things other said to do with adding it to the trusted sites and all that didn't work.

i did do a search on here but i didn't find anything.

any kind of help would be great

    Thanks
    Brian

What do you mean it doesn't work? You need to be more specific.

Sorry about that i was in a hurry to get out the door..

Pretty much i click the public folders. i go to the mail in the folder and there are no buttons to reply or forward nothing. i click the message and it just opens and closes and lets me print.

Interesting... I had never tried this before reading this post but sure enough, when I open an email from a Public Folder via OWA there are no Forward or Reply buttons in the message form.

I am pretty sure that this is only available to you in a frontend/backend scenario. If you have a single server it is not available.

          This KB article confirms it.

Re: OWA help with Public Folders

If there is only one server then the only thing you can do is state that it is not possible to reply to messages from a public folder. There are no other options without purchasing a second server and Exchange license.
How critical is it to reply to messages in public folders from OWA? If it is important to the business then the additional cost could be justified. If it is a nice to have then probably not.

Re: OWA help with Public Folders

Simon is right. With one server you cannot reply to mail items in PFs via OWA.

Re: OWA help with Public Folders

i guess i don't understand why i need another Exchange to make this feature work. Why would you need 2 exchanges to make public folders give you access to reply and forward using OWA.

I guess if it's just not possible it's not possible.

You will have to ask Microsoft that question.
There are certain things that only work in a frontend/backend scenario and this is one of them.
