  • Send As User issue

Hey this is driving me mad. I have exchange 2003 with sp2.

I have a user1 that wants to send as user2. I get the advanced view in AD and open up the security properties on user2 and add in user1 and give them send as permissions.

I then log the user off and back in and try to send as user2. When Outlook is in cached mode it sends the email and ten I get back the following:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.
    Subject: Test
    Sent: 07/09/2007 15:28
The following recipient(s) could not be reached:
    [email protected] on 07/09/2007 15:28
You do not have permission to send to this recipient. For assistance, contact your system administrator.
    MSEXCH:MSExchangeIS:/DC=net/DC=blah:server

When I take it out of cached mode I get a pop up when I click send telling me that user1 does not have permission to send as user2.

I tried giving them full control as well. Could it be possible that there is a hotfix out there for this?

have both the account been established?

im saying, both of these accounts work by themselves, right?

have you had user2 logon and grant user1 'send as' rights? does it do the same thing either way?
its easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission.

Permissions in Exchange are cached. If you have changed the permission and then tried to use the new permission immediately I would not expect it to work. The permissions cache is only flushed every couple of hours, so you will need to wait to see if the permission has taken effect.

Yes both accounts work fine on their own. What I have noticed is that each time I enter user1 into the security tab on user2 and give send as permissions, and when I go back into the tab and a later stage (20-30 mins) the users is gone.

It seems to be inheriting the security permissions from a parent which is strange as I have unchecked allow inheritable permissions to propagate to this child ....

I haven't tried doing the reverse with the users but will on Monday.

I'm also going to see if creating a group and giving the group permissions to send as will make any difference.

I'm currently fighting with this right now too...just how long does it take for permission changes to be applied? Is there any way to speed it up? I was hoping a logoff/logon would do it.

Permissions changes on Exchange are cached and the cache is flushed every couple of hours. Then you also have replication issues to deal with.

You should really have posted your query as a new question, rather than in this old one.
