  • Cant Create Mailboxes

    Ive got a small network with about 10 people on it. Ive tried to create a new user account and mailbox but for some strange reason, the mailbox is not getting created despite me checking the box to create a new mailbox.

    Whats the best way to troubleshoot such and issue? Ive checked the event logs but they are showing nothing which relate to Exchange 2003.

    If I recall the mail box is not created untill something is sent to it. Try sending a quick mail to the user and then check

      As said above, Exchange doesn't create the mailbox until is required. Exchange is a database, therefore the link is there, the field is not completed (mailbox created) until it is required.
      Do check that the user is getting email addresses automatically. That means that Exchange has done its thing and is ready to receive email for the user.

        Thanks to m80arm and Seebee for stopping by my thread.

        Ive sent a message to the mailbox but it came back a couple of hours later with the following statemnt

        Delivery to the following recipients has been delayed.

        Ive checked the Gal and the mailbox is not there either. Ive tried to create an Outlook profile but when it tries to resolve the name, an error is received stating the name cannot be matched to a name in the address book.

        Looking elsewhere on this forum, Ive notice Seebee advised a member to do something with RUS. How do I check if RUS is working, I suspect not.

        Also, just sussed this out. I recently put a new server into the domain (Sql server), I think the problem start when this went in. Does it make a difference if one server is a Standard Server and the other is an Enterprise Server? They should still talk and swap ad info etc??

          The presence of the SQL server should have nothing to do with Exchange.
          Has the account received an email address? It should get two - an SMTP address and an X.400 address. If it did not the RUS is not working correctly.

            Ive done a RUS rebuild and a reboot, the address is now working. Thanks Guys!!!!

              Hi,

              Even though you managed to fix this problem, it is still a problem.
              This is not a complete solution, I'd check to see what caused this. This whole process should work automatically without rebooting the server or rebuilding the RUS.

                  I have to say that I disagree to some extent.
                  You need to confirm that if you create a new account that the account objects get email addresses etc automatically. If they do then the problem is fixed. You should not have to reboot or force RUS to run everytime. If you do need to do that, then the comment posted above is correct.
