  • What do I need to know about exchange server?

I'm using outlook 2003 currently, and need the ability to have a centralized contact list. Also shared calender. I don't need anything else really.

How difficult is exchange server to install?
Do I install it on my regular server or user another computer?
Will it all me to have a central shared email and shared calendar?
I already know I'm not that bright. Please be constructive. Only give your 2cents if it helps. Don't be condesending or demeaning. It doesn't make you look smart. You just look like an arse.

you would be best served doing some research on google and microsoft.

For information on planning an exchange 2003 messaging environment:

    For features of exchang 2003:

You need to give us more information about your setup. Are you in a Windows AD Domain or a workgroup? What does your current server have on it? How many users are we talking about? Exchange Server is an awfully big purchase unless you're looking for more benefits than simply sharing a calendar between three users and a central contact list.

        • I am running Server 2003 w AD Domain.
        • DNS and File sharing is all we currently do with the server.
        • We have about 30 users

This is why I'm asking. If all I want to do is share contacts and calenders, is there a better way. I know what exchange server will do, but I like to see if there is a better solution for my simple needs.

With only 30 users and assuming there is no major staff increases planned, then SBS may be a better option to consider. The present 2003 server can be used for other things within the network so it is not wasted.
