  • "advanced" tracking messages? can I see to where the message is being delivered?

    Hi All,

I'm trying to find to what SMTP server my exchange is sending mail (only to one domain). In the message history I can see the mail has left the exchange, but i don't know to where.

The problem is that I set up a new SMTP server (postfix, hash-hash) in side the same network as the exchange, If I send mail from outside (Gmail, Hotmail, etc) I get the mail, But from the exchange I can't. I don't see anything in the logs to the new server also.
I suspected that the blame is in the MX, because it represent the real IP. So I set up a new site in the DNS, and write inside the LOCAL IP of the new server.
NSlookup works OK, but I can't send mails to this machine
(PS: If I use telnet to port 25 I can send mail...)

Now, after you read this wonderful story of mine, I need help to find to where my exchange is throwing my mails...

    Thank,
    Gili

Message tracking will show you the SMTP banner of the server the message is delivered to.
SMTP logs should show you other details of the server the message is delivered to.

There are basically four ways that you can manipulate message delivery

    - smart host on the SMTP virtual server
    - smart host on an SMTP connector
    - DNS entries on the SMTP virtual server
    - DNS entries and zone in your local DNS or a DNS server that the domain controllers are using as forwarders.

On that basis it should be quite straight forward to replicate what Exchange is doing for email delivery.

OK, on my message history, when I try to click to one of the lines in the report I see that the "properties" are grayed out... I assumed that is normal

BTW, I added a SMTP connector + Smart host, work like charm , Thank dude, good idea!
