  • Allowing other domain admins to administer Exchange email addys

I've got an Exchange 2003 Server SP2 in the domain V.com.au. I have an administrator in the P.com.au domain who when he tries to edit the SMTP email address of a user, he gets the error:

There is no such object on the server

    Facility: Win32
    ID no: c0072030
Microsoft Active Directory - Exchange Extension

I'm pretty sure it's a permissions thing as it works OK if I log in as the V.com.au administrator on the P.com.au domain controller and edit any user's SMTP address.

What do I have to do in either the V.com.au domain or the Exchange server to allow the domain administrator in the P.com.au domain to edit the SMTP email addresses of his users?

Have you granted the user any permissions in the Exchange org?

I delegated the P.com.au administrator to "Exchange View Only Administrator" and that seems to have fixed the issue. I feel that I have given this admin too much rights as I only wanted him to have the rights over his own users.

Are you running Enterprise edition of Exchange?
If so you could setup a separate storage group and then delegate control over that part, instead of the entire Exchange org.
