  • SMTP server for PDA

I just setup the IMAP4 virual server in exchange 2003 for our PDA users. They can download all their mail and no problems with that. Only problem we are having is that SMTP isnt working. They are unable to send e-mails from the PDA. Something with authentication. I played around with all the settings in the SMTP virtual server in exchange but no go. How is it supposed to be setup so that remote PDA users from the web can send e-mails out?

My usual recommendation is to send email via the mobile phone providers SMTP server. That gets round any connection issues.

Otherwise you have specifically set authentication credentials in the email client using the format of domain\username and the users need to remember to change it when their domain password changes.

Why not just use Exchange ActiveSync?

You are presuming that it is Windows Mobile.
The fact that the poster has mentioned IMAP means it is probably the iPhone, which doesn't support EAS. Most questions in the last few weeks about IMAP and PDAs really mean the iPhone.

Not really because you haven't provided any information on the device involved.
