  • Creating a failover exchange server 2003

We have an Exchange server 2003 at our location (standard edition). My boss wants me to create a failover server to be located at a warm site. I have not been able to find any articles on creating a duplicate replicated server. Ideally we want to setup a server at the warm site and have our current server replicate all of the folders and mail boxs. that way when our location is toasted by a hurricane we are to roll over to it and keep going.

    any ideas?

The reason you haven't seen any articles is because it cannot be done natively.
Exchange isn't designed to work in that way.
You will have to look at third party tools such as DoubleTake and NeverFail.

If Enterprise offered the functionality then I would have written "Buy Enterprise edition of Exchange". I didn't, because it doesn't.
Don't confuse what the poster has asked for with clustering. Clustering is very different and much more expensive to do correctly.

We use DoubleTake from NSI Software and it works very well. We have had to use it twice because of hardware failures and we never missed a beat.
