  • Is there a way to search through all mailboxes for a keyword or recipient & view?

I have Microsoft Exchange 2003 SP2 installed and through the message tracking center, I can easily search on a good set of criteria, like all emails sent to a particular recipient, etc.

What I can't see a way to do is view the actual e-mail messages.

Does anyone know if there's a way to achieve this?

What I want is to be able to run a search on all mailboxes and get a list of all messages sent/received.

I then want to be able to click on any of those messages and get the actual contents without having to go to each user's individual mailbox and do a manual search.

    Thanks in advance,
    Nicôle

Message tracking centre is not designed to allow you to view the contents of the email. It is there to track the email through the server so that you can see what Exchange has done with the messages.

There are only two ways that you can see the messages themselves.
    1. Access the mailbox.
    2. Enable journaling and access the email messages through that interface.

However before you change the configuration of your server to allow either of those methods you should talk to your HR people. What you want to do may not be allowed either under your company internal policy or by law.

      Thanks.

It's HR & the GM that requested this for legal reasons. I'll check journaling and see what I find.

      Thanks for your response.

It's not a cheap option but you could use Ontrack Power Controls to do this.

You would need to open the mail store with it so this would perhaps need to be a copy of the live store or use Power Controls to restore a tape to work with.

I've used Power Controls for a lot of legal discovery work and it let you search on almost any element of the email.

I love this product its a pity it costs so much.

I used to use Policy Patrol Anti-Spam. You had an option to make copies of emails to the PP quarantine folders depending on keywords/RegEx expressions.

Doesn't help you if you need to look at emails b4 PP!
