    Re: Cann't send email outside

    1. Check the DNS configration at your servers (Exchange / MailRelay) and verify that using nslookup you can resolve outside DNS domains.
    2. Use the next site in order to test your DNS configuration at the ISP (like MX, PTR):
    http://www.dnsstuff.com
CNE 5, CCA, MCSE NT4.0-2003, MCSE 2003 messaging, Exchange Server MVP.

      Re: Can't send email outside

Take the external DNS servers out of your IP configuration.
Also ensure that you do not have any external DNS servers configured in the Exchange server itself.

If you need to sue external DNS servers configure forwarders in the DNS Server applet.

As you are using SBS, have you configured it to use a smart host in the wizard? If so, does the name of the smart host still resolve?

Can you telnet to port 25 of your ISPs mail server?
Can you telnet to port 25 of a remote mail server? telnet maila.microsoft.com 25

        Re: Cann't send email outside

        for sembee

i took out external dns from my nic and my Exchange server

telnet to port 25 of my ISPs mail server its ok and telnet to port 25 of a remote mail server like maila.microsoft.com 25 dont work (could not connect).

i dont have smart host because all isp connection is trough my router.

concerning tkolber issue regarding the point 2

        2. Use the next site in order to test your DNS configuration at the ISP (like MX, PTR):

thats my ext dns are 212.27.54.252 and 212.27.53.252 what do i have to do ??

in any case that's a nslookup test to my external dns it seems ok !

        C:\smtpDiag>nslookup 212.27.54.252
        Serveur : re-serv01.royal-esbly.local
        Address: 192.168.0.9

        Nom : dns2.proxad.net
        Address: 212.27.54.252

i need to precise that my hosting dns entries is not my ISP provider !!

        thanks

Do you have port 25 open on your firewall??

            Re: Can't send email outside

If you can telnet to port 25 on your ISP, but not to an external host, then it would appear that your ISP is blocking outbound port 25. You will need to call them up and ask if this is the case.

If they are, then you will need to use an SMTP Connector to route outbound email through their server. http://www.amset.info/exchange/smtp-connector.asp
