  • NTbackup reports 1Gb of data but no files

I have Exchange Server 2003 and Windows Server 2003.

I have made several attempts at an online backup of the Exchange Server, following the very clear instructions provided on this website. Backup reports success, and the backup is recognised in Exchange System Manager.

However, when I look at the backup and verify report, this is what I get:

    Backup Status
    Operation: Backup
    Active backup destination: File
Media name: "Exchange Server backup.bkf created 6/06/2007 at 8:53 AM"

Volume shadow copy creation: Attempt 1.
Backup of "SERVER\Microsoft Information Store\First Storage Group"
Backup set #1 on media #1
Backup description: "Set created 6/06/2007 at 8:53 AM"
Media name: "Exchange Server backup.bkf created 6/06/2007 at 8:53 AM"

    Backup Type: Normal

Backup started on 6/06/2007 at 8:53 AM.
Backup completed on 6/06/2007 at 8:55 AM.
    Directories: 4
    Files: 5
    Bytes: 1,956,815,662
Time: 2 minutes and 20 seconds

    ----------------------

    Verify Status
    Operation: Verify After Backup
    Active backup destination: File
Active backup destination: F:\Exchange Server backup.bkf

Verify of "SERVER\Microsoft Information Store\First Storage Group"
Backup set #1 on media #1
Backup description: "Set created 6/06/2007 at 8:53 AM"
Verify started on 6/06/2007 at 8:56 AM.
Verify completed on 6/06/2007 at 8:57 AM.
    Directories: 4
    Files: 0
    Different: 0
    Bytes: 1,956,815,662
Time: 1 minute and 3 seconds

    ----------------------

And when I view the backup catalog in "Restore and Manage media", the log files, mailbox files etc folders are there, but contain no items.

I'd be most grateful if someone can point me to what I'm missing.

    Thanks

    Michael
