  • inetinfo crashes randomally

    Hello for all!

i have an exchange 2003 sp2 and lately i noticed that randomally i recieve events
about inetinfo crashes and inetinfo topology failed
it happens randomally and than the organization can't recieve or sebt mails
i can not restart exchange services bacouse they don't respones
the only solution is to restart server and everything is ok till next time.

i think it is since i configure iis to work with mobile phone (I-MATE JAS JAM)

maby , but i am not sure, the crashes will not happen again, because i carefuly
did exactely like Petri's article says

is it possible that the reason of cashes was because before this new configure,
i did not disable form base authenticate and did not clear checkbox of ssl in exchange site before exporting the virtual directory ?
now i did exacetly like said.

i thouht 3 days ago everything is about to be ok because several days i receive
no events about is and suddenly it happend again
the only changes i made before it re happend were:
1 install the fix about ir7 issue with s/mime
2 install a new web site in iis to enable change password throuh owa
    (exactely is explained in articles)

    thnks a lot for answers

    Re: inetinfo crashes randomally

    Dear

Inetinfo.exe is used primarily for debugging Microsoft Windows Server Internet Information Services.Inetinfo.exe is a process which is registered as IIS Admin Service Helper. This virus is distributed via the Internet through e-mail and comes in the form of an e-mail message, in the hopes that you open its hostile attachment. The worm has its own SMTP engine which means it gathers E-mails from your local computer and re-distributes itself. In worst cases this worm can allow attackers to access your computer, stealing passwords and personal data. This process is a security risk and should be removed from your system.

Determining whether inetinfo.exe is a virus or a legitimate Windows process depends on the directory location it executes or runs from.

    1) Please thorougly scan your server.

    2) Try to get all the new Patches for IIS and Install them.

    3) If you face the same problem try installing the service pack 2 for Exchange and check it.

    4) After installing exchange SP2 the problem is not solved. Then contact Daniel (lol) as he is the Master of Masters.

    Thanks

      Hi again
      thanks for answer

first the server already has exchange sp2
second we use CleanPort (its server is in Holand) and Cleanport filter mails
against spam and viruses and only after that the mails comes filtered to the exchange server
additionaly, ther server has symantec anti virus 10.1 and i scaned the computer found nothing (anyway i will check again)
is there ant patches spacialy for iis 6 (i didn't find) ?

and the question i asked befor
can you tell me why i should disable http from authenticate and ssl in exchange web site in iis before exporting it for mobile?
whay can happen if i don't disable both before?
      tanks again for your answer

        Re: inetinfo crashes randomally

I would be surprised if setting up the Windows Mobile support was the cause of inetinfo failures. It is more likely to be something else.

Anything else on this machine? Any Symantec products for example?

Most of the time this is caused by interference from a third party application.

          Hi
there is symantec anti virus for exchange long time (1 year) and the problem is since month ago
the inet info crashes random (can by twice a day or once a week)
i also have admial application on iis also long yime (about 3 months)
so both applications much more time before this situation began so it is starnge
to me that on of those will cause this problem
anyway i stopped and manualed nav for exchange service today
          is it inough?

the major enents are : faulting application inetinfo.exe id 1000
the second major event is :source msexchangedsaccess: proccess inetinfo.exe topology directory failed
when inetinfo faile, i must restart server because users stop sending or receiving mails and iis does't open and smtp virtual server not responding (can't start or stop)

          thanks

            Re: inetinfo crashes randomally

Previous behaviour of products is not an indication of future behaviour. This is particularly the case with products such as antivirus which are dynamically updated at frequent intervals.

Topology errors usually mean the server is having problems seeing the domain or communicating with the domain controllers.
Ensure that the DNS is configured correctly, with only the domain controllers configured as the DNS servers in the network configuration - no external DNS servers should be configured anywhere.
