  • Password protect OST file or Outlook Profile

I have multiple users using the same windows account, and on that windows account I have multiple Outlook profiles for each user. I am using Cached Exchange mode with RPC over HTTPS. If any user chooses another users profile and then clicks cancel at the logon box, he can still access all the old e-mails of that user. I know with a PST file I can password protect it, but I don't see that option for an OST file. Is there any way to do this, or to password protect the Outlook profile so that other users can't access each others old e-mails in the profile?

Please don't answer that I can make multiple windows accounts, I know that already. I don't want to do that.

    Thanks

You can configure Outlook to ask for the user's credentials when it opens, can't you?

I tried going into the Exchange Mailbox Settings and selected Always Prompt for Logon Credentials and it didn't work. I can still click cancel and see all the old e-mails of that profile.

      Any other ideas?

Hmmm... then no, sorry, not natively, especially since you insist on having just one user account for all those users that'll be using the computer...

Outlook works on the principle that the machine login protects the mailbox. Outlook presumes that if someone has logged in to the machine then they have permissions to access the relevant mailbox.

If you want to protect specific mailboxes then you need to stop the users from accessing everything with the same account.
