  • External Mail Forwarding

    Hi All,

We have SBS 2000 Setup , Exchange 2000. Now I have created one contact in my Exchange with external id e.g [email protected] , now i am making one rule in my outlook express that if i got the mail from [email protected] to my company ID that will be automatically forwards to my yahoo id e.g [email protected] . Now the Thing is the rule is working , as when the mail comes from the particular id it forwards to my [email protected] id as this shows me while forwarding and i can confirm it via check in sent items folder . but when i am checking the mail on my yahoo.com account , there is no mails on that id ..As if i configure the rules for internal forwarding it works but only when external forwarding comes in the picture its not working....

So where this mails gone !!!As it shows in my sent items that mails has been sent from my out look but its not reached...Can anyone help me to find the solution..

    Thanks in advance....

    Peter.

Automatic forwarding is usually disabled in Exchange by default, so you need to ensure that it is enabled.

In some cases the automatic forwarding rules will not fire unless Outlook is running, so you need to ensure that your rule is not a client only rule.

Finally some sites may block the messages because they appear to be coming from another server, not the server that should be sending the email.

          Re: External Mail Forwarding

          Hi ,

I have Check my queue also but there is no mail is stop inside ...and i have also check on the different mail domain like yahoo , gmail , rediff , indiatimes etc ..but on no one i got the message dilervered...as it shows in my sent items..as well as this is not a client only rule so ..if mail box is closed also that time also it should work ..but this is secondary things...as at present if my mail box is open but still its not working....and one more thing i have notice is that when i am creating any new contact at that time i am giving the mail id as [email protected] and when finished it...it shows me only one smtp address in e mail address of that contact properties it it the proper ?

My MX Record settings are proper as i can manually forwards the message to any domain...and i am able to send receive mails from any domain to any domain...and i am not having any spam filtering software on my server.

Please help me to solve this issue .....

          Peter.

Have you got message tracking enabled?
Does that show the message going out?

By contact do you mean a mail enabled contact in ADUC or a contact in Outlook?

If you mean a contact in ADUC then it will have a single email address (the external one you entered while creating the contact) until recipient update services updates the contact with internal addresses. If that isn't happening then you have a problem with RUS.

              Hi ,

I have check that message from message tracking center but it shows it delivers the message to yahoo server ....but when i am checking my yahoo account there is no message inside it . I have check this settings with g mail , rediffmail.com , hotmail .com but no where i have received any message ..so what may be possiblity...and for contact in ADUC it shows only one external contact id with yahoo address ..and its correct...Previsoly this was working very fine ...but after rebooting my server on last week it suddenly stops...so i think there might be some settings were disturbed....

So what may be the cause ..why i cant able to receive the message at my yahoo inbox....

Please help me to solve this issue....

                Re: External Mail Forwarding

If the message is showing that it has been delivered to the Yahoo server, then the problem is that the Yahoo end.
With Hotmail/MSN I know that they have changed something recently.
I blogged on it yesterday: http://www.sembee.co.uk/archive/2007/04/23/41.aspx

Automatic forwarding is always troublesome because of the way that the message can appear to be transferred. It is not something that I recommend.

                  Re: External Mail Forwarding

                  Hi ,

As might be some problem from Hotmail/MSN and Yahoo but i am facing the same problem with majority of the mail domains..like Rediffmail , Indiatimes , GMail , myspace etc.. and all the domains might not be stopped this future...

Here i am giving u the details step which i had done on my exchange...

                  1. Create a contact with external address .

                  2. Define a Rule in my Microsoft Out look that if mail comes with specific subject like abc...it should forward to the specifc contact created in the server .

                  3. Send the mail with eh specific subject .

4 . Open Tools Rules ..and run the rules...

                  5. Check the message in message tracking center. it shows my server has delivered the mail .

Is there any specific settings i need to do in my server expect this are ?

As earlier this was working since long time..but suddenly stops so what may be the issue. ......

Please help me to solve this issue...

                  Thanks ......

                  Peter.

                      Re: External Mail Forwarding

If the message is stopping at the categoriser then that is where the AV software does its thing. Therefore you have to look at the AV software as the cause.

However I have not seen message tracking lie before, so if message tracking was saying that the message was delivered, then it was delivered.

Long term, you are not going to get a solution to this problem. When you forward a message in this way, it will be seen by the recipient server as spoofed email. The email is coming from a server (your server) which is not responsible for email from the sender (the original sender - not your Exchange account).

I don't use any kind of message forwarding to internet accounts because it is so unreliable and I discourage my clients from doing so as well.

                        Hi ,

Thanks ....I got the solution...i have check the check box in microsoft exchange - global settings..internet message formats..defaults--properties--advance tab --allow automatic forwarding ....and its done....but one more thing i come to know that now ...when i am sending any mail and if i am asking for the delivery receipt of that mail i got the delivery receipt but in that delivery receipt i got the complete mail in the attachment with the attachement which i had sent in that mail so ..it creates the unnecessary netowrk traffic....so how could i stop it ....

Please help me to solve this issue.....

                          Re: External Mail Forwarding

I have no idea on your delivery receipt issue. I don't use delivery or read receipts, I consider them rude.

I did point out in my post on 21st April that automatic forwarding is disabled by default in Exchange and to check that it was enabled. As you didn't respond to that point I presumed that you had enabled it.
