  • Alias and mail on more domains issue

I used the Petri tips for adding alias on exchange 2003 & 2003 Server with no problem.

Now I used the same tips on exchange 2003 & SBS 2003:
user in AD : [email protected]l
    [email protected]
    [email protected]

Well when I check the mail with outlook, looks like that all the mail is sent to [email protected]l.

I am not able to read the real adressee in the mail, but if I read the header I can see the real adresse.

Exchange change the alias recipient with the user name.

That wasn't happening with the first configuration, when I was able to read the real recipient in the TO field.

    Any tips?
thanks and sorry for my bad english

The behaviour you are seeing is correct.
As far as Exchange is concerned, all users only have one email address - the primary one. All others are aliases and used for inbound email only.
If you want to see the email address the message was sent to then you need to use a third party tool. The only one I am aware of is this:

I found an interesting anomaly which would explain how the OP might have thought it was working with the first config.

If someone uses Outlook (2003) to send an email to an alias address in the same Organization as him/herself, it will show like this:

Name:	emailto.jpg
Views:	1
Size:	5.3 KB
ID:	463104

Any other scenario it will show like:

Name:	emailto2.jpg
Views:	1
Size:	5.6 KB
ID:	463105

Now I only have one Exchange server to test with so I don't know if it would have the same behaviour if the mailboxes were on different servers.
