  • Which Exchange Ports can I block and still have it working?

    Hi All -

I am a newbie to exchange security and need help with blocking all the ports that I can, but still have it working. I recently found that my box was being used as a spam machine so I blocked out practically all of my ports SQL,Exchange, etc. But I did leave all the necessary port: 80, 3389,etc. I want to open my exchange port, but only the bare minimum. I did look at the detailed list of exchange port from this site ... http://www.petri.com/ports_used_by_exchange.htm ... and read all the port description but am still a little clueless. PLEASE help.

    -Thanx in advance.

spam and open ports got nothing to do with each other, really... If your machine was used as relay, then it was simply misconfigured or cracked, exposed and abused as a result.
As for open ports, all would depend on how your exchange server was implemented and its purpose.
Normally, you would need ports 25 and 110.
