    I've had a few people call in on this issue today. They are trying to send email to outside recipients and are getting the following bounce-back: There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's email server. Please contact your system administrator.

    < #5.5.0 smtp;554 Failure Virus scanner detected virus in message>

    Has anyone seen this? I scanned the systems and it shows clean so I don't know if it's that or something else.

    edit: FYI: The is my domain name.

    what did the message contain? any code snippet or vbs attachments?

    any word docs with macros?

    what AV solution do you employee?
    its easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission.

      That isn't an Exchange message, so it is being caused by something else.

      Do you send your emails directly, or via smart host?
      If a smart host, is under your control?

      If you send email directly, do you have AV installed on the Exchange server? If so, make sure that any SMTP scanning features are disabled.
