  • Outlook Mailbox folder sharing issue !!

    Hi,
We have 2 Back End Exchange servers in a Single Exchange Organization; both Exchange servers are located in separate Routing Groups. Routing Groups are configured in geographically separated sites and these sites are connected with Site to Site VPN link using PIX firewall. We are configuring Mailbox Folder Sharing using folder permissions in Outlook.
The configuration is working perfectly when users are access mailboxes from their office LAN, we are facing a problem when users are access mailboxes using RPC over HTTPS.
When a user connects to his mailbox using RPC over HTTPS he can only access the Shared Outlook Folders for of the users whose Mailbox is created on same Exchange server or in First Routing group, but when he try to open Share Outlook Folder of the user whose Mailbox is created on Second Exchange server or in Second Routing Group he receives following error:

Set of folders could not be opened
This error usually appears if the OST or PST file you are using is:
    Unavailable
    Protected with file permissions
On a share on a server and the network is down
    Corrupt
To correct this problem, store the OST or PST file on the local computer.
You may also want to run the scanost.exe and scanpst.exe tools to verify file integrity.
More information about this error message online.

Please provide any solution to resolve this permission issue.
    Regards

    It isn't a permissions issue.
The problem is due to the technology being used. You need to use a frontend server with RPC over HTTPS connecting to the frontend not the backend directly. That will allow Outlook to connect to the mailboxes as required.

No - that is why you have to use a frontend server. There is certain functionality in Exchange that only works on a frontend server - you either deploy a frontend or don't have the functionality.

I tell clients that as soon as a second backend server is introduced that a frontend server is almost mandatory for a successful deployment.
