  • Problem stopping exchange

    When trying to stop exchange on my sbs 2003 server I get an error in the Application log 9175.

    Event ID 9175

    The MAPI call 'OpenMsgStore' failed with the following error:
    The Microsoft Exchange Server computer is not available. Either there are network problems or the Microsoft Exchange Server computer is down for maintenance.
    The MAPI provider failed.

    ID no: 8004011d-0526-000000

    The following link explains how to fix it http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320705 although i am reluctant to do this as the only backup I have available is a week old.

    Will all the messages be lost between now and the last backup or does this file not effect it? Or would I be best just to recreate it altogether?

    1. Verify that the exchange server name is well configured in the DNS.
    2. Check the next: netdiag, dcdiag, nslookup and Replmon if you have more then one DC.
    3. If ave a valid backup a week ago, but you have the log files since then - I would recommand the followings:
    A Dismount your DB.
    B. Copy the DB files + Log files to other directory.
    C. Restore the DB from Backup.
