  • remove duplicates in exchange database

Our company had been running pop3 accounts for a while and when we finally migrated to exchange accounts, we imported the old *.pst. This boosted the store to quite a big size. I read the exchange database only holds one copy of a sent mail (let's say to an [email protected] address) but I belive that does not apply to imported mails.

Is there any way to check for duplicates in the database and keep only one instance (and replace the other instances with a pointer to that single kept mail)?

    Thankx

Re: remove duplicates in exchange database

If the items are identical, Exchange will eventually trim down the DB items, but it will not reduce the DB size. For that you need to perform an offline defrag. Look for event ID 1221 in the application log, see how much free space is freed in the DBs, and if it's more than 25% you should consider an offline defrag.
