  • Remove domain from Exchange 2003

I have an Exchange 2003 Server with a second smpt e-mail domain that had a group of users using this second domain ( @BBB.com ).

The users of this second domain was sold and moved out with their BBB.com domain. Their BBB.com e-mail is setup somewhere else. It works fine for them.

Users on our primary domain AAA.com can't send emails to BBB.com. It appears that Our Exchange thinks this domain is still on its server.

I have removed the smtp address (@BBB.com) from the Default recipent policy.
Deleted all of the user accounts of those that moved, and removed the smtp [email protected] from all of the remaining users still here at AAA.

When any user tries to send an e-mail from AAA.com to BBB.com they get the following message:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

    Subject: test 101
    Sent: 2/10/2007 7:13 PM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

'[email protected]' on 2/10/2007 7:13 PM
The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to. Check the e-mail address, or contact the recipient directly to find out the correct address.
    <SERVER.DOMAIN.local #5.1.1>

Obviously, the BBB domain is still lurking around somewhere.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Bob

Re: Remove domain from Exchange 2003

If you do this at a command prompt:

    nslookup bbb.com

    what do you get back?

I'm trying to discover if your DNS thinks bbb.com is still inside the building.
    Best wishes,

Re: Remove domain from Exchange 2003

If I do an nslookup on BBB.com it gives me an external IP (Their website)
If I do an nslookup on mail.BBB.com it gives me an external IP.
      mail.superb.net
      XX.XX.XX.23
If I set my type=mx and l do an nslookup on BBB.com it gives me another external IP address.
      smtp.superb.net internet address = XX.XX.XX.15

      Thanks for the help.

Sorry I couldn't find a solution. I'm still puzzling about it.

Does dcdiag /c tell you about any problems?

Does netdiag tell you about any problems?

The installation program for these are available in the SUPPORT TOOLS folder of the Server 2003 disks, just in case you haven't used them before
        Best wishes,
        PaulH.
