  • Routing between Exchange 5.5 & Windows 2003 POP3

    HI,
I Have a setup for testing at home.

    There are three servers

    Hostname OS Domain Role IP

    Srv1 Win2003 Ent abc.com DC 10.1.66.1
    Srv2 Win2003 Ent abc.com DNS, POP3 Server 10.1.66.4
Ntsrv Windows NT SP6 EXNT PDC, Ex 5.5 Server 10.1.66.200
    DNS for Mail Domain xyz.com

I want both mail servers (EX & POP3) to deliver messages using DNS.

    Here is what i tried

    1) I Have Installed DNS & Inetrnet mail Service on NT Server. DNS on NT is hosting xyz.com zone. i have created MX entries for xyz.com zone. Configured forwarding on NT DNS to 10.1.66.4.

    2) on SRV2 i have installed DNS, it is hosting abc.com as secondary zone. On this server i have configured conditional forwarding for xyz.com to 10.1.66.200.
On SRV2 SMTP i have allowed Relay.

The Problem i am facing is when a POP3 User sends mail to user in xyz.com SMTP is able to deliver the message.
But, Exchange 5.5 server is not able to deliver messages to abc.com.

Another thing when i am configuring SRV2 as smarthost on EX Server Then delivery of messages works fine.

    Please Help
    Cheers!!
