  • Restrict Sender Filtering

    Hi All,
    I have Exchange 2003 SP1 on windows server 2003.
I want to restrict specific user from sending mail.
    I did the following:

    1. Added the e-mail address at the "sender filtering" at the "mail delivery", and marked the "drop connection if address matches filter"

    2. Marked the option "Apply sender filtering" at "default SMTP virtual server" at the "Advanced" button, and added the Exchange server and the 25 port.

    3. Added the SMTP connector, and added the user under "reject messages from" at "Delivery Restrictions".

    4. Replicated the DC's.

After all that it didn't help, and the user still can send messages.
I don't know what to do anymore, and what o configure.

I even restricted the size of message at sending to 0 KB, but still user can send messages.

    SOS please

      Re: Restrict Sender Filtering

      Holler,

Sender filtering has NOTHING to do with outgoing email. Only incoming email. If you want to prevent someone from sending mail you need to do so on the connector level, and if you want to permanently prevent them from sending to the Internet you can simply remove their SMTP address and only keep the X400 one.

Hey Tsahi, I checked your answer, and the link to MS site very helped me and solved the problem.
        Thank you alot.

Daniel, if I do so, as I understand, user wont be able to send mail, but in addition to that, he won't be able to recieve mails.

        Thanks Ahead.

          Re: Restrict Sender Filtering

What exactly do you want to do?
Stop the user from sending email to the internet?

If so, simply restrict the user from using the SMTP Connector. If you don't have an SMTP Connector, set one up. You restrict who can send through the connector on the Delivery Restrictions tab.

I have an article on my web site about how to restrict users from sending and receiving email via the internet: http://www.amset.info/exchange/restr...ternetmail.asp

          Simon.

Am I talking to myself? As Simon said, what exactly are you trying to do?
