I'm going to change the Display Name of several users, is there a way to change the display names that appears in the mails that were already sent by those users?

    For example:
User named (Display name) Olduser, sent to all the organization mails, tomorrow im going to change his name to NewUser, I want that the change will reflect the mails that he already sent. (I donít want that end-users will be confused...)

The design of the organization is:
One and only domain in a forest running several DC (2000 sp4 and 2003 R2) all the Exchange servers are 2003 sp2, User workstation : XP sp2 running office 2003 sp2, there isnít any user working with PST (The option is blocked with GPO)

    Re: Display Name:

It is not possible to change the display name on emails that have already been sent.
I would also recommend against renaming the accounts. I don't do that as a rule.
The main reason for that is the break in functionality. Once you change the display name, the bit in < > will remain the same. If you change the bit in < > as well then that will stop anyone who has this user in their nicknames files from being able to send email until they select them again from the GAL. Similarly they will be unable to reply to email sent by that user account.

What I suggest instead is to create a new account and then forward the old account to the new account and hide the old account from the GAL.

      2.What do you mean by "the bit in < > " ?

The main reason im changing the Display Name is because I want diffrent Format in the Outlook names..

3.Thanks for the tip about creating accounts and forwading the message to them..

        Re: Display Name:

When you send an email to a user, the auto complete entry will show something like

        Joe Bloggs <jbloggs>

The < > is the alias.

If you are simply updating the format of the display name, then that should be fine, as the account hasn't actually changed.
However if you were changing the whole name of the account - so from Joe Bloggs to Tom Smith, then that would cause a problem.

It is just aesthetics, but users do have a habit of complaining about the least little thing.
