  • What Are Your Mailbox Size Limits?

I just saw brian873's recent thread where he mentioned a user with 500 MB mailbox limit. In my company, the bulk of users have 75 MB limits, and a select few have higher ones, but nowhere near 500 MB.

    So the question is:

What's your typical mailbox size limit for your base users, and how many of these users do you have?

    * It depends on several conditions and each organization has its own requirements:
    1. How many users.
    2. How many Exchange servers.
    3. What is the volume of storage?
    4. What is the backup scope?
    5. What is the email transport in your organization?
    6. What the company does (if it use CAD drawings that each one contains 20MB-50MB for example).
    7. How many sites.
    8. What is the DRP plan (if there is).
    9. Do you have a PST server or archiving system?
    10. Do you have the ability to change policies in the organization or the CEO / CIO / VP / VIPs has the last word about it?

Anyway, if you have a PST server or any archiving system, you can set:
    100MB - warning.
    150MB - prohibit send.
    500MB - prohibit send/receive

•If your backup system, can backup all this data.

Re: What Are Your Mailbox Size Limits?

While that's all good to consider, I was just curious about other organization's general settings. As a clarification to ours, our max email size is either 8 or 10 MB, and the average "large" email is 5 MB.

I'll constrain the question to general email with < 10 MB attachments

As for us, we've got users with multiple PSTs that can be as large as 8 GB, although that's the extreme. Our "average" user has an archive between a couple of MB (some just love deleting emails) and 700 MB.

        1. I think that 10MB to 15MB for email size (with today's files - mpg, doc, reports), can be OK.
        2. The limits for mailboxes as I wrote before can be OK, if you have backup systems that can backup those mailboxes.
        3. For VPs (VIPs) - you can increase the limits for prohibit send.

        Hope I helped
