  • Organization Name

    Two quick questions:

    1. Does the Exchange Organization Name need to be unique from any existing AD names? (ie. Can it be the same name as the domain?)

    2. Can the Exchange Organization Name begin with a Hyphen?

Many thanks in advance for any assistance.

    Re: Organization Name

The org name has to be unique.
I cannot see any reason why it cannot be the same name as the domain, although I have never set it to be that.

I wouldn't start it with a hyphen as that could complicate any disaster recovery.

      Re: Organization Name

Thanks for the reply. I will avoid starting it with a hyphen.

Can the Organization Name contain any hyphens, perhaps in the middle?

      Thanks again.

        Re: Organization Name

I have sites with a hyphen in the middle. It doesn't appear to cause a problem.
The important thing is to make sure that you document it accurately, including the exact case so that in the event of a restore you can put the same name in again.

are different and would not be acceptable.

Don't forget that you cannot easily change the org name once you have set it, so make sure that it is right.
