  • OWA-SSL: page can not be displayed

    Hi

i have followed the step by step guide for using SSL with OWA here at www.petri.com

i am using server2003 fully patched and exchange 2003 R2 fully patched

both are on the same computer

    my problem is:

i have created the local cert and install it and then enabled ssl for the exchange virtual directory and restarted iis... like in the how to

but if ssl is enabled the page can not be displayed... and if disabled i can access OWA with no problem... if i am enabling ssl again and just type http://server-name/exchange i get the this page neds secure connection... and then i change it to https://server-name/exchange and i get page can not be displayed... no firewall or anything else is installed or in the way...

    some one has a clue?

    thanks

Re: OWA-SSL: page can not be displayed

Have you tried setting up forms based authentication:

    http://www.petri.com/configuring_for...hange_2003.htm

Give that a try and see if it works fine over SSL??

TBH when I set-up my exchange box I never tried to access OWA via SSL WITHOUT forms based authentication. When I get home tonight I will remove forms based authentication and see if I experience the same problems as yourself

Did you require SSL just on the /EXCHANGE virtual directory, or did you do it on the entire site?

Re: OWA-SSL: page can not be displayed

it was selected on both entire and the exchange dir. did not work

and now i have on the entire site selected but in exchange it is now not selected and i can access OWA again... but forms is still enabled...

i have removed all approved certificates and disabled ssl in the exchange virtual dir now...

can you tell me a step by step how to try? create again a local certificate...? and then enable ssl again?

how do i check if its not a certificate problem?

Re: OWA-SSL: page can not be displayed

Disable SSL on the entire site, enable it ONLY on the EXCHANGE vdir. Make sure it is NOT selected for any of the other vdirs.

did not help i have checked all virtual dirs and only enabled it in the EXCHANGE dir.

and on the main dir the default web site i have disabled it.

Re: OWA-SSL: page can not be displayed

Don't confuse the setting to REQUIRE SSL with your ability to use SSL.
I never set the option to require SSL on the sites that I administrate - instead I restrict the traffic to only use the SSL port.

Are you testing this from inside or outside of the network?
If you are testing it from outside, try inside. On a machine on the network, browse to

                    https://exchangeserver/exchange

(where exchangeserver is the real name of your Exchange server).

You should get an SSL certificate prompt. That is normal and accept the prompt to continue.
If you don't get an SSL certificate prompt then it would appear that SSL isn't enabled on the server correctly.

                    Simon.

Re: OWA-SSL: page can not be displayed

Does OWA load? Or do you get nothing at all?

If you are getting nothing at all then I would have to suspect that the IIS configuration isn't correct.

If you look at the web site in IIS, does it have the certificate and does it show the SSL port (443) being used?

                        Simon.
