  • OWA and Mobile management utilities

While downloading the Exchange Service Pack 2, I came across a couple of new utilities from Microsoft that many will be interested in.

The first is for Mobile Device management (MobileAdmin.EXE). The second is for setting parameters for Outlook Web Access (OWAAdmin.EXE) and it makes it a LOT easier to set up some advanced features in OWA without editing the registry.

Mobile Admin is probably the most overrated application Microsoft have ever produced. It should be renamed the "remote wipe tool" because that is all it does. It doesn't give you the remote admin functionality that people who have used Blackberry expect.

Thanks for the info, but that's old news...

You can read more about those tools on many websites and blogs, and also here:

Plus, it's worth noting that both tools are made mostly an integral part of Exchange 2007, with the remote wipe featured even enabled on the user's OWA options page, and the ability to even remotely wipe the PPC's SD card (if I remember correctly - Sembee will probably flag me if I made a mistake ).

        Not bad

Exchange 2007 with the next version of Windows Mobile will wipe the SD card. Current version of Window Mobile cannot wipe the CD card, and that is a limitation of Windows Mobile - not Exchange.

The best thing about Exchange 2007 in this context is that the users can wipe their device themselves from OWA, rather than getting the admin to do it - so no late night phone calls from a user when they lose their device in the pub!

It wasn't in the recently announced AKU 3.0 for Windows Mobile 5.0 either, which I thought it might be.

Ooops! Sorry about the old news.

I should have known that if I stumbled over something, it was probably there already in the brain trust.

          No soup for me.
