  • Our user on another domain getting challenged for password to access email

    Hi all!

This is probabyl an easy one. We have our parent company that has a T1 connection from us to them and routes built in so we can ping everything on their network but our AD is compeletely seperate and we don't share/trust domains.

Our CFO was up there and trying to access email (we have entries in his host file for our email server since they don't have our DNS) and he got prompted for a username and password. He said he hasn't seen this before. Is this normal?

I would understand if this is normal since he is on a seperate domain and he is needing to authenticate with our email server to access email. But I would also think that our email server would see his machine/connection as domain\username and since he logged into XP using cached credentials, then it would use those credentails to automatically authenticate and not prompt him. When I did an IPCONFIG on his machine, I did notice his DNS suffix was another domain.com so that might have something to do with it.

Just trying to get some clarity. Thanks in advance!
