  • One post wonders....

I know that us 'regulars' on the site have a bit of a moan about the amount of one post wonders that hit the forums only posting wanting help and rarely offering it... So i thought i'd have a look at a few other forums i post on to see what there members average post total is. Heres my results:
    • NGEmu.com - 19.2 posts per member
RaceSimCentral - 36.1 posts per member
      MSFN.org - 6.6 posts per member
      Corsasport.co.uk - 121.4 (!) posts per member
      PearPC.net - 8.9 posts per member
      Petri.co.il - 3.5 posts per member

Well this doesn't really show / prove much and i know it isn't a huge amount of data but i suppose it does prove that here at MSCEworld we have more one post wonders than the other forums shown here.

I suppose it does prove one thing and that is I have too much spare time to 1) compile this list and 2) visit these forums on a regular basis!

              Alright, satisfy my curiosity...

Since PPM (posts per member) doesn't really tell us much, lets also look at posts total. Ruling out moderators (like yourselves) how many posts do, say, the top 10 posters have? That data should also be available.

I think you're wading in the right pool tony but a good deal of the other forums you used as benchmarks aren't really in the same league. Why compare a forum dealing w/ EMUs to one dealing with MS software administration?

Sorry to break all the fun up w/ a serious post.

Hmmm... out of these you can safely take out at least 5 not-so-active members, and at least 2 top-question-askers-yet-no-answer-givers...

On the other hand we do have some good quality users here, and I hope their number will steadily increase. I hope that some of the new bonuses I plan to give away in the next month will bring some spice to the forums.
                Cheers,

Well im not a moderator and im in the 450 area and ive only been here 6 months or so.

I agree that the forums dont have the same main topic but they are peoples interests and i would say that despite this area being most peoples job (mine included) i also take an interest in server issues and developments. I suppose that makes me a computer geek!!

I just thought it would be an interesting evaluation and stir up a bit of debate... Which seems to have happened... and plus it might help get peoples post count up!!! Lol!

Well I can definitely say I've been motivated to contribute considering how incredibly helpful the forums have been for me.

Some of these one offs can be annoying though. Sometimes I'll come across something that sounds like it might be relevant to what I'm working on. Quetion asked, solution offered, no follow up. Too often we never find out if the solution offered was right or if the question asker figured it out on his/her own. This can be frustrating and cuts down on the overall effectiveness of the system.

But what are ya gonna do about it? Just a little thinking out loud.

There is little I can do. I played for a while with the idea to offer points (or virtual cash) to the users and allow them to "spend" it on questions, and earn more for answers, something like experts-exchange does. However after some more thought I've decided to wait till we have at least 5 or 6 K users, otherwise it mighr scare people away.
                      Cheers,
