  • "http://" prefix in the link window

Although the new dialog box to enter a link in a post looks great compared with the old one, there is still one thing: the "http://" prefix shows there by default.
Usually, I copy links from the address bar of the browser, so they already contain this prefix. I have to delete every time.
So, the question is: is the prefix necessary?
I don't know what happens if someone will write an address without the prefix, so cannot tell which option is less annoying.
    What do you think?

I usually paste over the http:// as it is blocked when the window opens. Yes, I agree it is a bit annoying and it could be done away with but it is something in the programming and not an option we can change UNLESS Wired has a hack for it.

I never ever used that box.
I just past the link in the box where I'm typing the message.

Indeed, but this only works when you post the whole link. I make the text clickable, so the [url] ... [ \url] should be around it...

Re: "http://" prefix in the link window

I did not notice any change (using FF here). But the HTTP default is redundant as I always copy and paste the link too. (then again, who types? everything is copy and paste )

In any case it helps remind me that I am pasting a link.....

There's nothing to do. When you paste into that box, it overwrites the http:// , as it's highlighted.
