  • 3 most used and needed applications/tools in your life

Every IT person has a toolset that contains his or her most needed apps. They can be installed apps such as Outlook or Excel, or could be poertable apps such as Sysinternals suit or Putty.

What are YOUR 3 most used and most needed apps, the ones you immediately run to install anytime you need to use a new system?

Name them, not necessarily by order (unless you clearly have one or two favorites).

To make it more interesting, if someone already gave the name of an app you planned to give, add it anyway and mark it as "already given by...", and then add 3 other apps of your own.

    For example, user A says:

    My 3 favorite apps are:
    app1
    app2
    app3
    User B says:
    My 3 favorite apps are:
app1 (already given by user A)
    app4
    app5
    app6
    User C says:
    My 3 favorite apps are:
app1 (already given by user A)
app5 (already given by user B)
    app7
    app8
    app9
This way we'll have a large and growing list of apps.
    Cheers,

      Hmmmmm.....

      1. RSAT (Still very unhappy that Remote Desktops has been deprecated though! Not a fan of RDCMan.)
      2. Telnet client. (Usually use the built-in Windows one, first port of call in troubleshooting email issues)
      3. Produkey. Essential for customers who don't bother to keep records of product keys or copies of their media.

Honourable mentions for the Sysinternals suite (Process Explorer and TCP View being very useful), PuTTy and LanSurveyor Express.

I could list a lot, but applications that I frequently use on my home computer are:
            Firefox (wtih adblock plus plugin)
            ccleaner
            uTorrent
            VLC

Mmm, did that last post post?
                      Malwarebytes,
                      Stinger
                      Microsoft Security Essentials

I think an addendum to Daniel's rules should be anyone who posts Symantec A/V / SEP etc should be banned AFTER being buried to their neck in a septic tank for a couple of days.
                      1 1 was a racehorse.
                      2 2 was 1 2.
                      1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
                      2 2 1 1 2

                          That would be head downwards?

I Stickied the thread so it stays at the top. Now WHERE are our Members and their contributions to this excellent topic. Somewhere there are going to be tools/apps etc mentioned that you haven't heard of and you will have a DOH!! moment and say "Why didn't I think/know about that one".

I find it interesting the Sysinternals suite hasn't been mentioned.

Mr Petri sir, could the list be expanded to 5? This is just a thought as I found it VERY difficult narrowing it down to just 3 (twice) and 5 is so much more a semi decimal number ( of 10 ).

If lots more Members post their favourite tools, I shall ban myself for a week. How is that for an incentive. So come on, FLOOD this thread!!!
