  • A Flickr group for your tired, your poor, your huddled masses of jiggered IT

I just made a Flickr group called "Ghetto IT" that I'd like to have populated with photo documentation of people's most slipshod solutions. We've all had to stick things together with duct tape and bailing wire at one point or another. There's no shame in that. Let's share the grief together.

    Here's a snippet from the group's description:

This group is for photo evidence of you or "your friend's" make-shift solutions. Not to jeer at, of course, for we've all had to make due with less than we want (or even need). Keep it civil and constructive.

Photos can be about anything IT related that strays from "best practices" or is downright borked. Duct tape on cell phones, servers propped up with broomsticks, switches and routers getting current from an exercise bike, tire tracks on a laptop... you get the idea.
Come on over and join! Tweets, blogs and any general publicity is appreciated.

    ....oh I'm there!

Wait while I take some photos of what happens in a world without budget when the server air con unit goes up in smoke!

    Edit:

I'll have to upload this eve though ...no iphone connector at work, a travesty to be sure!

I'm sure I've got a few pictures around. As a child of the 80s if it can't be fixed with duct tape, a paper clip and a swiss army knife (or modified to fire cabbages!) then it's not worth fixing.

Do you seriously expect to get away with that line without a proper explanation and/or photographic evidence??

Clearly you aren't a child of the 80s, or a fan of The A-Team Wesley! Check this out, it's Youtube proof.

Ha, that's nothing. With that gear MacGuyver could have made a nuclear weapon deliver system AND created a space vehicle that would have got to Mars and back within the same episode.

              Child of the 80s: Yes

However, my mother knew that I had a vivid imagination and a penchant for setting things on fire and so I was banned from watching both the A-team and MacGyver until I was older and presumably had more fear of convictions on my permanent record.

MacGyver wouldn't have needed a welding torch or all those tools either, duct tape and a Swiss Army Knife were always enough.

Who do you think would win a competition to build an extremely useful device is a particular dangerous situation out of complete and utter junk:

                    MacGyver or the A Team?

MacGyver of course... With just his knive, pencil, ductape and maybe some other pieces of small junk he would be able to build a car or highly explosive devices...
The A-team needs a welding torch, BA Baracus to do the welding and Hanibal to think, Loads of metal, and something to aim to finally hit something..

MacGyver would turn BA Baracus's jewellry into a weapon and whoop his ass with it.

MacGyver vs Chuck Norris. Now there's a thought.

MacGyver wins over the A Team because they need to be locked in a fully stocked garage for a couple of hours to build anything.

MacGyver doesn't like guns versus Norris, who does, so Norris wins (of course).
