  • Microsoft's new search engine codenamed "Kumo" launches in weeks

    http://blogs.computerworld.com/kumo_...ch_engine_soon

I had to check the date on this blog to make sure it wasn't posted on April first. It looks real enough. The real name that it will be saddled with might be "Bing" (as if "Kumo" wasn't stupid enough??). News stories on this go back to late 2008 so apparently I was out of the loop on this news item. The inevitable phrase "Google Killer" has been bandied about on the webs. We'll see what happens or if this will be one of many odd search engine bobbles that will quickly be discarded and forgotten. They are all onto Google aren't they? Will this be the real battle then or as google plans to step into the OS market (albeit into the cloud context) they are just trying to outweight each other!

Well as history shows nobody stays on top forever:

      1. The Greeks
      2. The Roman Empire
      3. The British Empire

At one time Microsoft, Google, and Walmart were the David's fighting Goliath but their time too will pass. I don't think Microsoft will supplant Google as the king of search just as Google won't supplant Microsoft as the king of the OS, but somewhere down the line somebody will supplant both of them.

Paul Thurrott's latest info on the "Bing" / "Kumo" phenomena. Set to replace Live Search later in the year and a beta date of June 3rd. I hope they keep the front page similar. The only reason I went to Live.com was to see the daily photograph on the search page.

Unless Microsoft bought out an innovative search company this will be buried and forgotten.

It's replacing Live Search... how many times has Live Search replaced itself now?

Re: Microsoft's new search engine codenamed "Kumo" launches in weeks

I just found this a minute ago: If you go to www.Live.com and look in the lower right corner you'll see a link that says: "Have you heard about the decision engine yet? Try it today." And it leads to decisionengine.com. Strange, that's yet one more term in Microsoft's attempt at PR for the new search engine. At any rate, there's a few minute video explaining "Bing".

Maybe MS the search engine should call it Sumo, big and bloated like all their other software. (No insult intended to Sumo Wrestlers)

How about Suemo'. "If you don't like it we'll just sue you mo'!"

Or maybe it's the reverse, "Dear EU, please don't sue us any mo'."

I think they should call the decision engine Bada-BING! OH! (drum roll, etc., etc.).

I'm here all week. Try the veal.

Yeah, I noticed that they've integrated it into the Windows Live Messenger 'Today Screen' as well..
