  • Windows Server 2008 Foundation ; New for small businesses

Anyone hear about this? Here's a quick Google News search:
    http://news.google.com/news?q=Window...008+Foundation

Supposedly the hardware and OS software combined will be under $1,000 USD. It will be limited to no more than 15 client connections. I heard one person's take on this move by Microsoft as a way of competing with small business using "free operating systems" (read: Linux). I suppose its good news for consultants who specialize in small business work, especially as people tighten their belts a bit more.

EDIT: Interesting C|Net article from Dave Rosenberg. What do you all think about Microsoft offering a free version of their OS? Windows Server Lite? Interesting concept.

I hadn't considered that, especially since Microsoft isn't known for being Pranksters. (In contrast, Google's Gmail April Fool's joke for 2009 was great, as usual. So good, in fact, that I think one of my bosses actually believed that Gmail AutoPilot was a real soon-to-be-released feature =) )

Check out this Windows Server 2008 Foundation Network Guide. The document says it was published in November 2007! http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...0-%20Final.doc
