  • Free PHP Host?

I know there are a lot of free PHP host services out there, but most are limited, eg. some do not support sending of emails from a forum application. Does anyone run a forum from a free PHP hosting service with no problems?

      Re: Free PHP Host?

Thanks Biggles77. Yeah I know, unusual, but not out of the ordinary considering the number of forums popping up on the net these days. The reason for my post is that those hosts which I visited either had PHP hosting with no email facility, or no attachment facility (unless you $$$ of course), so I just wanted to know who had done the same and which host they used so that I didn't have to do all the running around until I found one that *worked*. I was looking for ppl's experiences!

I found one at http://instant-forum.com which looks promising. I've just started setting it up (http://jdmils.phpbb.instant-forum.com so it will be a few days b4 I get it to look the way I want.

Thanks for your help (as usual).

http://www.mybboard.net/ free software (no hosting) and it is pretty secure. It is very vBulletin like and doesn't have the same hole that other php forum software has.

Thanks for the post and the two references. Even though the initial question was to resolve an issue for someone else, it helped me as well! I have been considering attaching a BB to website that I maintain for musicians. This will be a great option and within their budget too!

JD, get rid of it and put in MyBBoard. You have less chance of being hacked. I have found phpBB to be full of holes and my personal opinion is that it is CRAP!! Have a look at MyBBoard and see the different configuration and logging options you have. ALso, MyBBoard is done by a guy in Sydney (Aussie so it must be good). Seriously, change to MyBBoard BEFORE your numbers increase. If you need help setting it up (and you won't) it is a local call to reach me. PM me an email contact or phone number.

                Re: Free PHP Host?

Damn..See what I mean--- there's no attachment function. And this is why I need to know who's doing the same thing without the restrictions.

Biggles77, when you go to the different hosting packages, it's whatever software THEY use that you have to use. If I was hosting my own IIS server then the sky's the limit

I need to find a free forum hosting site with as little restrictions as possible. My aim is to host a forum relating to GPS devices, initially specific to the Navman F20. I have a ton of stuff to share, just need the resources to share it. Thanks.

Again, thank for this http://www.lonex.com. AUD$82 per year (1.50 per week, 22.5 cents per day) this is who I use. Emma (flat chest) Spice also uses the site.

Infraction given to biggles for slagging off Emma Bunton.

The Emma Bunton followers are increasing in numbers!! Watch out or me and Jas will be on your doorstep with our 'Emma Bunton Hater's bat'

Hhhhmmmm - Daniel can we add this to the list of infractions for an instant ban?

Try http://www.proforumco.com/ - a different design paradigm to phpBB forums but I've not been made aware of any security issues and it's very most excellent to use. Oh - and the forums are QUICK.

Thanks guys. It's the hosting that's really getting me down. I just finished setting up a new board with 12gbfree.com and just found that you have to upgrade to get PHP Mail to work Damn !

Is there really no such thing as a free lunch? I ask again, does anyone (successfully) run a forum off a free hosting service???

Spend the $82 for a Lonex account and claim it as a tax deduction. Get one back on Peter Costello. (Always thought it was funny having an Abbott and Costello in Canberra )

Did you have a look at what Lonex offered in their account? You could run 5 Forums from the one account. Drop a little bit of advertising, the site pays for itself and you have full control of everything PLUS you can have real forums software.
