              Hi guys

              Long-term reader, short-term contributer here!

No impressive internship here, just a lowly student but I am "sysadmin" for a couple of companies running mainly SBS.

My course is a doddle so it gives the time to while away getting inside the latest betas (god knows theres been enough lately)! Main interests are sharepoint and exchange, currently working on a hosted exchange/sharepoint solution for students which is absorbing the bulk of my time/electric bill.

My next logical step is MCSEs but all of the SMEs I work for are more interested in my ability to do the job not the letters next to my name. If anybody has any suggestions on this front as Im struggling to justify to myself the s of taking ALL the exams.

              Anyways in short... HI

To start with, the exams fees and study should be a business expense and as such, tax deductible. The study is really an excellent way to learn the basics of an application before delving into its inner workings. I consider an MCSE as a license to learn and not a be all and end all qualification. Although the letters can look good on your business card and can also assist in obtaining new clients.

Not going to do the shuffle but I can give you the info on me!

I am a IT Director (did i mention I am the only IT person as well?) for a roofing manufacturer. Been the only IT guy here for over 6 years staright out of college. I am a MCSA: Messaging Specialist. I also perform any and all other IT tasks for about 130 people across the United States. I am a jack of all trades master of few but my strong points are Access database programming, Server 2003 and Exchange 2003. Also dabble in AIX, AS/400, PIX and a lot of project management.

Looking foward to getting my MCSE and also certified in Lotus Domino/Notes Admin and developer next year. Also want to start on my MBA in the next year or so. We will see how far I get on all of this while working and having a family but you have to have goals.

Only joking - Not really a big fan of Lotus notes but forced to use it by my current client as they have decided to use Distrivtuion groups as a means of provisioning servers - Dont ask.

Nice intro - 6yrs is quite a while to be with the same company. I think the longest I have lasted was about two years

Anyways, welcome. Hope you can help whereever you can

                        Is it payday yet?

                        Hello Fellow Do-Gooders!

Stacy from Fort Worth, Texas USA swooping in to say hello!

Daniel's site has been a real google blessing around here. He rocks -- as do all of you for helping to make me the smartest-sounding admin on the planet at my job. YAY ME!!!!

I'm a Network Engineer by title and Social Engineer by trade. Check out my profile for more extensive info on me. Im not a "morning" person, thus my handle.

It's hard for me to get too distraught over much of anything, except those things that disrupt the paycheck flow, of course!

I have many horses and an offspring that require after-hours attention, so you'll rarely find me online after quittin' time each day.

Try to find a little humor in something each day, even if it's inadvertantly locking myself out of a server ; )

Look forward to adding my little gems of experience to this community or at least bring a smile to your face if I can't help ya.

                        regards,
                        StillAsleep Stacy

Social Engineering -- is there a Microsoft Exam for that?

                            So glad you asked...

                            Why yes,

yes there is an exam for Social Engineering... its called the M$ interview. Pass it and you get "immersion" training in the art and science of that redoubtably handy skillset. I lucked into SBS for awhile... havent decded if it was good or bad luck, but my IM list holds me in good stead now (YAY!) when I need to ping someone to eyeball the inside DB about an issue when I can't find answers anywhere else... and trust me, don't ping unless you've looked EVERYWHERE else! Those blue badges make ya earn it baby! LOL

Scotland?! Send some Clydes or Vanners my way man!

I hear you...trust me the Domino/Notes stuff was not my idea...we had a CRM solution built in it and now some people feel we should move out of Exchange and get fully into Domino. I need to learn more on the domino and see how Exchange and Domino can co-exist...We will see...
