  • Why would Microsoft close down VistaTorrent?

Microsoft Slaps VistaTorrent.com with a Cease and Desist

    Makes no sense!
If they cant handle it, then why would they stop this when it helps? Im finding it hard to understand how they work!

Plain and simple, because they're not in control of it.

They can't guarantee anything about that file. They've also stated that they won't use bittorrent for the transfer as well.

Gentlemen (and Ladies, if there are any viewing), the Forum title says Longhorn Server. This thread is about Vista and VistaTorrent, way off topic.

This thread should be moved to The Lounge if further discussion is to take place. Thanks.

Re: Why would Microsoft close down VistaTorrent?

I don't know if anybody's still interested but here's my two cents:

Microsoft is only distributing a limited amount of the Vista beta. If someone else is enabling people to download Vista, M$ would not know how many copies are out there (is activation required?) and they wouldn't know when to stop the distribution.
The Customer Preview Program is available in a limited quantity both through download and DVD kit ordering. Once the allotted quantity has been reached the program will be closed and no new orders will be accepted.
              Taken from http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvist...y/preview.mspx
              Regards,
