  • VPN issue from a Vista Business 32bit client

    Hi All,

    Need some help here...

    a) Got a new HP Probook and connected to my office VPN successfully and it was working fine.

    b) A few days later... I can't VPN anymore... Office VPN is just fine. I've another desktop that I tried to VPN and it was working just fine.

    I'm getting this Error 800.

    What can be wrong?

    thx,
    suds

In vista it uses MS Chap v2 whereas older version used MS Chap v1.So, you can upgrade the firmware of your router and check it out.

Hi there, thanks for your kind reply.

Actually the weird thing is that, the notebook was working perfectly fine for the first 2 to 3 days.

My desktop PC is a Vista too and it can VPN to office via the same router.

That is the reason why I'm rather stumped!

          thx,
          suds

what;s at the other end of the VPN ?

check your Vista Firewall settings and ensure the appropriate ports are allowed out

              Hi there,

The other end is running SBS2003.

I'm at wits ends!!! My internet security is McAfee Internet security 2009 on my notebook and my desktop. THe settings are the same! But the Desktop works using PPTP VPN.

              Any help???

              thx,
              suds

                Hi

check the firewall settings & mccafe settings, give a try by disabling mccafe for a while and check..

try checking the port configurations in router end, bcoz error 800 is generated with the router.. whats your router model number??

in vista sometimes we have a problem in security, try it out and revert back..

                Regards

Can you make a VPN connection internally? If yes, then you can narrow the issue down to your routers.

                    Hi there,

L4ndy, What do you mean by "VPN internally"?

L8ians, OK... I'll try to disable Mcaffe completely. Note that my internal desktop PC can VPN to my server (I'm using dyndns). If the my router lets to go thru, then it can't be the router. I'm using a 2Wire modem/router. I'm using the same modem/router from my notebook.

Port configuration is allowed on the router end (else my desktop won't work).

                    thx,
                    suds

With that, I mean within the LAN.
