  • Interesting article about Vista 32bit and >4GB of Ram

    http://www.geoffchappell.com/viewer....nse/memory.htm

That 32-bit editions of Windows Vista are limited to 4GB is not because of any physical or technical constraint on 32-bit operating systems. The 32-bit editions of Windows Vista all contain code for using physical memory above 4GB. Microsoft just doesn’t license you to use that code.

Windows Server 2003 x86 supports different amounts of memory based on the edition. With PAE, Standard edition only supports 4GB whereas Enterprise edition supports 32GB.

Despite the article author's comments, I would err on the side of caution and advise against trying to remove this limit as it would probably be considered a breach of the licence, or other offence.

Nice article, If proved to be a genuine claim, I wonder why MS is trying to cap the 32 bit OS to under 4gb??
Maybe for the same reasons as the famous 640k quote!! or to pave way for new 64 bit sales??

Probably. Various articles I've read have all described "64-bit as the new 32-bit". Apparently the emphasis with Windows 7 is going to be largely towards 64-bit, now that Vista has started us off towards more widespread support from hardware manufacturers (even Vista had to have something positive about it ).
